A Resolution Supporting the Student Media Bill
1. WHEREAS, the Student Government Association (SGA) represents the interests of the student body; and,
2. WHEREAS, those interests entail protecting the privacy of journalistic sources; and,
3. WHEREAS, journalism without this protection is less credible; and,
4. WHEREAS, the current laws of Maryland do not protect journalism and/or news gathering/disseminating students from being forcibly compelled to reveal their sources and information gathered; and,
5. WHEREAS, the Student Media Bill (House Bill 257) currently proposed in the Maryland House of Delegates by Delegate Rosenberg would provide such protection; and,
6. WHEREAS, this protection lends credibility to student journalism; and,
7. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the SGA supports the Student Media Bill; and,
8. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the SGA will take steps towards furthering student awareness of the Student Media Bill.
