1. WHEREAS, the Student Government Association (SGA) promotes the welfare of the undergraduate student body and supports student group activities; and,

2. WHEREAS, The University of Maryland Triathlon Club is a student organization which is accessible to all University of Maryland students; and,

3. WHEREAS, the UMD Triathlon Club’s mission statement is "to promote leadership and teamwork through a competitive athletic environment. Members will learn how to work together to train for and compete together in triathlon races;” and,

4. WHEREAS, the USAT (USA Triathlon, the club’s national governing body) Collegiate Nationals is the best opportunity for to offer a competitive race to UMD Triathlon members against other college students from around the country; and,

5. WHEREAS, the level of competition at Nationals is unlike that of any race in the regional area; and,

6. WHEREAS, UMD Triathlon Club will represent the University of Maryland at the USAT Collegiate Nationals amidst competitors such as Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina, and other rivals from all over the nation; and,

7. WHEREAS, the USAT Collegiate Nationals take place on April 17, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas; and,

8. WHEREAS, UMD Triathlon Club plans to send 8 members to Nationals, the minimum number of people required by USAT to be scored as a team; and,

9. WHEREAS, Campus Recreation Services (CRS) has prohibited UMD Triathlon Club from renting university transportation for this race; and,

10. WHEREAS, CRS has required that all competitors travel via airline to the destination; and,

11. WHEREAS, UMD Triathlon Club originally received $536.00 from student activities fees for bus rental and would like to use that money towards air travel costs; and,

12. WHEREAS, it would cost $621.00 per person ($321.00 for a roundtrip plane ticket through American Airlines, $200 to fly a bicycle roundtrip through American Airlines, and $100 for a bicycle case required for shipping); and,

13. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that $4968.00 - $536.00 = $4432.00 be allocated to UMD Triathlon Club from SGA Legislative Reserves for the purpose of air travel to the USAT Collegiate Nationals; and,

14. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any unused funds will be returned to SGA Legislative Reserves.
