A Resolution Regarding Senate Bill 283
1. WHEREAS, it is the goal of the Student Government Association to support student interests; and,
2. WHEREAS, it is the purpose of the Governmental Affairs Department to address concerns of students within local, state, and federal government; and,
3. WHEREAS, The Maryland General Assembly has proposed a bill, Senate Bill 283, to take money from the Higher Education Investment Fund to form the Tuition Stabilization Trust Account; and,
4. WHEREAS, The Tuition Stabilization Trust Account will limit the percentage increase of tuition for resident students; and,
5. WHEREAS, The Tuition Stabilization Trust Account will help keep tuition in line with how much Maryland families can afford; and,
6. WHEREAS, the Tuition Stabilization Trust Account has an objective to disseminate money to public institutions to their respective general funds to keep tuition from increasing; and,
7. WHEREAS, the Tuition Stabilization Trust Account will be instrumental in helping mitigate the potential tuition increases in the future for resident students; and,
8. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that SGA strongly supports Senate Bill 283, which establishes the Tuition Stabilization Trust Account; and,
9. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that that the SGA will advocate for Senate Bill 283 at Terrapin Pride Day.
