A Resolution Regarding the Extension of Athletics Tickets to the University of Baltimore
1. WHEREAS, the Student Government Association is dedicated to improving the University of Maryland Community; and,
2. WHEREAS, a majority of members of the University of Maryland Community are connected through the attendance of athletic sporting events; and,
3. WHEREAS, the University of Maryland-College Park campus has seen low attendance and demand at home games this year in multiple sports; and,
4. WHEREAS, attendance for home football games has been particularly low, The highest attendance was on November 14th (Blackout) against Virginia Tech 51,514 people were in attendance to that game. Just two weeks later over 15,000 less people came to the game against Boston College, November 28th with just 35,042 people coming to the game.
5. WHEREAS, the University of Maryland-Baltimore has no mascot and consider themselves Terrapin fans; and,
6. WHEREAS, UMD-Baltimore students and administrators have demonstrated interest in these extra tickets; and,
7. WHEREAS, both UMD-Baltimore Administrators and 75% of the 6,660 students at UMD-Baltimore, are from Maryland and have expressed interest in these unsold tickets; and,
8. WHEREAS, the Student Government Association at UMD-Baltimore bought 200 tickets for a single basketball game during winter break and 400 additional students applied for $10 dollar tickets; and,
9. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Student Government Association strongly urges the Administration to allow the University of Baltimore access to unsold tickets to sporting events in College Park.
10. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Student Government Association will begin discussions with the UMD-College Park Administration to reevaluate the Student Activities Fees to accommodate UMD-Baltimore student demand for unclaimed student tickets at sporting events.
