An Act Regarding Financing of Know Your Rights Forum

1. WHEREAS, many students are unaware of their constitutional and legal rights; and,

2. WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the SGA to engage students in proactive learning environments that will help advance their education and living experience while in the university; and,

3. WHEREAS, these students can be taken advantage of in certain situations if they do not know how to exercise these rights; and,

4. WHEREAS, the Know Your Rights Forum is a secure environment where students can learn about their constitutional rights from professionals and share past experiences with each other; and,

5. WHEREAS, this forum, scheduled for March 8th will provide beneficial information to students about their rights concerning such issues as search and seizure, lawful and unlawful entry, as well as first amendment rights; and,

6. WHEREAS, it is important to advertise this event so that students may be aware of this opportunity for learning; and,

7. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the SGA Legislature endorse the funding of $537.60 for the cost of two 1/16 of a page ads to be run in the diamondback on Friday March 6th and Monday March 8th advertising the event and informing students of SGA’s co-sponsorship of this event; and,

8. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the SGA Legislature endorse the funding of $80, the price of 2000 black and white flyers, and that this $80 be given to Students for Sensible Drug Policy for efforts of expediency in spending; and,

9. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the balance of these moneys be delivered back to the SGA Legislative Reserves.
